Melanie M Guerra
Jewelry Designer
"All my jewelry has stories"
I am passionate about gems, jewelry, design and the history and symbolism of jewelry. I agree that all jewelry has stories to tell: the who, where, and when of it's maker, wearers and admirers. I truly believe that we are all connected, and with my work I feel I help strengthen that. I often think about the many hundreds of pieces I have made, sold and gifted that are now out there in the world, marking special occasions, sharing good days and bad, absorbing their own history and marks of time.
I have been creating my line of handmade original jewelry since the early 1990s. My designs are constantly evolving, and currently I work primarily in fine silver, using Precious Metal Clay. I incorporate various gemstones in one-of-a-kind designs. Additionally, there are segments of my collection that are created by hand with wire (sterling, copper, brass) and gemstone beads, glass and other materials from around the world. Two new segments are emerging: enamel work and resin jewelry. Melanie Guerra Studio jewelry is current and fresh yet timeless, with original designs and expert craftmanship.
I am a graduate of a Gemology program at The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the Connoisseurship/Appraisal Studies Program at Rhode Island School of Design in conjunction with the American Society of Appraisers. I am also a Level II Certified PMC artisan, having studied under Peggy Houchin in Colorado. I am an active member of GemX and the Fashion Council at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I am also an experienced teacher of jewelry design and technique, and offer private workshops to individuals and groups of most sizes.
